                                                               Cedar Hill Quilters Guild

                                                     July 17, 2018, Minutes / Newsletter

35 People enjoyed great salads and decadent desserts at our July salad dinner. Plenty of food for seconds (and thirds!)..then dessert). Many of use had take out boxes and cups! Brenda K. rejoined our guild and we had one visitor.

Our Christmas dinner will be December 4, and the majority decision was to make an ornament.

Rally day went very well. Maryln did an outstanding job organizing our responsibilities. Maryln, Julie, Barbara, CJ and Kathy held and paraded quilts during the rally presentation. Maryln coordinated the workshops. Julie and Claudia prepared the food and were helped by Bobbie, CJ Judy, Rita W. Mary D. and Gina. Deb Tucker and her assistant stayed and enjoyed the 1890's house for the workshops. they enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching the goats. What hotel has goats!

Georgia announced that our pillowcases will now go to Scottish Rite Hospital. We also donated 11 dog beds to the local animal shelter. Remember to put your "throwaway" bits of fabric and batting into a sack and give to Rita W. I'm sure the animals enjoy a soft cozy bed.

We made a slew of microwave bowl holders at our workshop. these will be sold at Country Day. The pattern is on our website. Please make some! Our next workshop is August 21, 2018. It will be at Corner Square Quilts anytime during the day. We will be making grocery bag holders. Besides helping t boost our guild budget, learning to make these items will teach you to make some useful Christmas / anytime presents for family and friends.

Mary G. told us of an Estate sale with an enormous quantity of $5/yd fabric, kits and quilts. The day is gone, so hope she of you got to check it out!

We have such talent in our guild!!!!

We exchanged potholders in a very civilized manner..we went by number, went to a table and chose a bag that was to be our new potholder!! Many beautiful, resourceful patterns. I plan on using mine as soon as it gets cool enough to turn on my oven!

Remember that we will be showing our BMLE (Borders, Margins and Lessons from the Edge of the Quilt) next month. This will be our last border .. and that will include EMBELLISMENTS. Whatever you fancy: prairie points, ribbons, lace, whatever.

Our Program next month will be by Tana Mueller who will discuss her quilts and fabric lines. She certainly has some exciting new ones.

September will be President's Challenge. A quilt made with a panel. Still have time to make one. We will have a most interesting panel of judges..better not miss it.

Mark your calendar for the 1st weekend i March. Our annual Cedar Hill Quilt Retreat, Feb 28 to March 3rd. The cost will be going up next year due to price increases. More info later.

Also..if you have unwanted quilt related items that you want to pass on to some other quilting friend…be sure to bring it to meeting and place on our FREE table.

Thanks to Judy's home organization for letting us use the beautiful meeting room for our dinners!!
