"Helping Our Community Projects"

In the spring of 2019, we began creating a donation quilt for the TRI-Cities Animal Shelter. Our goal was to create a Quilt that could be auctioned off to raise money for the shelter. The TRI-Cities Animal Shelter Gala successfully auctioned the quilt for $1,000.00 and the winner was Laurie Duncan. Laurie and her husband run a local Dachshund Rescue. Needless to say, she fell in love with the quilt and had to have it.

Our Community Services committee serves as a source of information concerning Guild activities and as a liaison to the general public. We are currently involved in the following on-going projects.

Alzheimer's / Dementia Quilts - If you would like to make something different for charity, try one of these for individuals suffering from Alzheimer's or dementia. .

Pillow Case Project - We create pillow cases foster children who are forced to leave their homes with nothing but the clothes on their backs. One of our members graciously opens her home and her heart to these kids and when it is time to leave her, she sends them off with their belongings in a pillowcase of their choosing.

Here are a few patterns from which you can choose:

Hats - Guild Members make crochet and knitted hats for children. The warmth of the hats keep the preemies warm as well as the older children who might need them.

Receiving Blankets and Children's / Young Adult's Quilt - Every year we donate dozens of receiving blankets to the various hospitals around the Dallas area for the babies. In addition, we also donate quilts to Children's Hospital in honor of one of our former members, Jeanne T. May she continue to watch over the children. Here are a few suggestions:

Self Binding Receiving Blanket

Flannel Receiving Blanket

Veterans Administration Quilt Projects - Volunteers continue to make and give quilts / throws to the individuals at the VA. Should measure 40 x 50 and have ties 10 inches from the top. No batting, can use cotton/flannel/corduroy.

Please contact us if you would like to assist by making items for these worthy projects of if you would like to donate fabric or yarn.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.
