Halloween Trick or Treat meeting!  Anticipation is high, members checking bags for size and weight. We have 2 new members, Patty and Theresa!! Welcome!

Upcoming events:

Nov. 3  Judy’s church, The First Christian Church , 203 S. Main St, Duncanville,Texas is having a Bazaar from 9-4. We are renting a booth to sell our Bazaar items and raffle tickets for our quilt. Plan on going to get a start on your Christmas shopping.

Spring Retreat: Time to start thinking about out CHQG spring retreat. It has traditionally been held on the first weekend in March. In 2019 it will be from Feb 26 to March 3. You can go from Thursday to Sunday for $294.30 or from Friday to Sunday for $196.20. Meals start on Thursday evening meal and end with a brunch on Sunday morning. Lunch and supper meals are prepared each day. Breakfast supplies are available to make your own, waffles, toast, bagels, English muffins, jams and peanut butter, cereals, hardboiled eggs…you get the idea. Plenty of coffee, hot chocolate lemonade mix at all times. Plenty of sewing room (2 tables per person) and good lighting. A fun way to get to know your fellow members and get a LOT of sewing done. Sunshine and Shadows , Charlotte: none at meeting time, but just learned that Judy did the splits in her shower..so she is resting and repairing. Nothing broken (so says she)!

Librarian, Angela: She purchased egg crates that slip easily into the book cart (for magazines and soft cover quilt books). Magazines are .25 cents! She is alphabetizing all the books by Author and will have that done by January. Mary G. participated in library challenge for September. Prizes will be given at November meeting. Remember:   We love quilting because…the quilting possibilities are endless!

BLME, Julie L: Finish up your last border and bring your project to next meeting! Julie has something planned for our New Year. You have to wait until after the 1st…wonder what it is???

TAQG, CJ: Reported that last meeting discussed the 501C rules and regulations. Nov 13, TAQG meeting. Program chairmen to attend and learn of interesting speakers to book for our meetings.

Shop news: Corner Square Quilts...Rhonda said they are going to market Nov 3. Be sure to let her know if you are looking for something special at the shop. New quilt kitted..LUSH, be sure to check it out. Cedar Hill Fire Dep’t. is restoring an old fire truck and are in need of funds. Rhonda said there is an old boot in the shop where you can donate money. This truck will be used for events in Cedar Hill.

Sewing machine repair and cleaning every Saturday, bring machine in Friday, pick up on Saturday afternoon.

Workshop: Sheryl led our workshop before the meeting today from 2-5. All of us completed our table topper and some even got it quilted!! Nice for a gift!

Next Workshop - Leo Ransom will be doing our Feb meeting (fabulous portrait quilts). He also will do a workshop for $35. Sign up for workshop at the November meeting with Cheryl Stutsman.

  • 12 members manned the Texas Country Reporter Festival this Saturday. The weather started out perfect and soon turned into a blazing summer day. Not sure if that is much better than the bitter cold of last year! The crowd loved this quilt.
  • VA always sends us thank you letters for our lap robes! Keep “em coming.

Trick or Treat Fun: Trick or Treat contained more Treats than Tricks this year (although the few tricks were doozies! Our quilters can make lemonade from lemons, so can’t wait to see the outcomes). Patty, Gina. Cheryl, Helen, Julie, Rhonda, Drena, Ruth, Claudia, Mary D. Danna, Hollie, Charlotte and Barbara are the name slips I received, think there were a few more recipients.
