2016 Block of the Month


For December AKA January block of the month (we have until January to get this one done!) we'll be making this eight pointed star block to celebrate the New Year! Fabric colors use scrappy batiks.

For November 2016 block of the month drawing we'll be making a friendship star variation! Block size 12 1/2" unfinished. Fabric colors will be Christmas prints with light background; use red, green or gold fabrics for the star and small multicolored prints for the corners.

For September 2016 block of the month drawing we'll be making the card trick block. Let's make this block scrappy, use a light background and four different prints for the cards.

For August 2016 block of the month drawing we'll making the Churn Dash Block. Fabric colors: blacks, whites and grays. One fabric is the background and one is the focus. 12 1/2" unfinished. Challenge is to make 2 blocks one of each with darks/lights reversed!

For July 2016 block of the month drawing we'll be using two different teal, aqua and blue-green prints with any white or white on white fabric. Block size 12 1/2 unfinished this quilt block is constructed with half-square triangles. The instructions were created using Quilt-Pro Systems Triangle Magic

For the June 2016 block of the month drawing, let's make these boxy quilt blocks. You'll have a 12.5" block for a finished 12" block. This month we're using 30's fabrics. The main fabric would be a medium or dark print. Use a very white or white on white for the background.

Majestic Mountains Quilt Blocks. For the May 2016 block of the month drawing let's make scrappy Majestic Mountains quilt blocks. We're using 8.5" squares for this block. One square of light fabric and one from dark. For this month just bring the two blocks not attached to each other so that the winner can decide how to piece together!

Glass Quilt Block pattern by Janet Wickell. Using springtime colored fabrics, a floral, an accent color and a neutral. Completed block should measure 12 1/2" x 12 1/2".

9" Spool & Bobbin - select 2 or more yellow and blue fabrics to make this block to bring to the March CHQG meeting. Finished size 9", the block will measure 9 1/2".

Using different colors of reds and pinks, make one block 8.5" square and bring to the February CHQG meeting. We will have a drawing for the winner to take home all the blocks. If there are a lot of blocks, we might have more than one winner.
The patterns are included here and numbered for paper piecing. Paper piecing is just one of several options to assemble this block of the month.

A total of 34 blocks were brought to the 2/16 meeting and shared between 2 winners!
